disabilityworks Hosts Three Students for National Job Shadow Day

High School Students (front row and 3rd from left) Participate in Job Shadow Day

February 5, 2009

For the third year in a row, high school students with disabilities spent the majority of the workday shadowing disabilityworks staff at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. The students are juniors and seniors attending Chicago Public Schools. All three plan to attend college in Illinois, and are considering careers in healthcare, education and retail sales. During this fast-paced day, the students observed and discussed leadership roles, business scheduling, networking and event planning. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about the professional skills needed to work in an office setting.

Job Shadow Day is part of a nationwide effort to assist students with disabilities in sampling real workplace environments, and is coordinated locally by the Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities.
