Name of Healthcare Job Skills Program:
Medical Office Administration

Length of Program: 21 weeks

Eligibility Requirements: High school or GED

Cost of Program: = $6,622. However, there are no direct costs to DHS-Division of Rehabilitation Services funded customers as well as WIA funded customers.

Description of Program: Administration Program will teach students to handle general administrative tasks, such as greeting patients, scheduling appointments, filing records, purchasing supplies and equipment, coding and managing insurance payments. Students will learn to use medical office software to process claims for inpatient and outpatient admissions. The Program also provides a framework and essential skills necessary to take and pass the AHIMA national coding exams. The Medical Office Administration program will qualify students to start a great career as a medical secretary, medical transcription office assistant, medical office coordinator or medical office assistant. Students can work for hospitals in admissions or assist administrators. They can work for insurance companies processing claims and verifying billing, for Public Health Organizations for federal, state, or local government.

Name of Healthcare Job Skills Program:
Homemaker/Healthcare Aide Training Program

Length of Program: 7 weeks

Eligibility Requirements: TANF recipients with 2151, unemployed, under-employed, low income, food stamps only or MANG with documented eligibility, Reading comprehension level of fourth grade or above, Good physical health, with no restrictions or limitations on lifting or bending, clear communication skills

Eighteen years of age or older, responsible, mature individual, No history of abusive behavior, Experience in the health care field is a plus, but is not required.

The program also instructs students in job seeking skills. During these sessions emphasis is placed on employment activities. Self-assessment exercises, exploring the job market, proper interviewing techniques, application completion and job retention skills.

Cost of Program: Free of charge to applicants who meet eligibility requirements.

Description of Program: The Jewish Vocational Service's Homemaker/Health Care Aide Training Program is a seven-week skills training course designed to develop the skills necessary for entry level health care occupations such as Health Care Aide, Homemaker and Companions. Graduates will be able to assist individuals who are elderly, have a disability, are ill or recovering, as well as care for children.

Health Information Assistant Certificate Program

Length of program: 6 months plus 40-hour internship

Eligibility requirements: Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate and obtain a 70% or higher on admissions test

Cost of program: $4,679.00 (Includes books and fees). Financial aid available for those who qualify.

Description of Program: The Jordan Evans Institute (JEI) is a private vocational workforce training school. The school is designed to introduce students to the field of Health Information Management (HIM) and teach entry-level skills for employment within the HIM field.

JEI offers a Health Information Assistant Certificate Program (HIACP). The HIACP teaches clerical functions that are performed in all healthcare environments such as assembly and analysis of a health record, release of information, terminal digit filing, and more.
