TechWorks Celebrates Completion of Internships for Students with Disabilities
On August 19th, 2009 at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, John Barr (pictured at left), Director of the School to Work Program, IL Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity representing the funder of TechWorks Pilot Program and Karen McCulloh (at right), Executive Director of disabilityworks join with 35 employers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and TechWorks interns to celebrate the end to the internship program for people with disabilities.
Below are more photos from this inspiring celebration.
Deputy Director Joe Albritton, City of Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD), addresses the audience and thanks all participants for being involved in this first-of-its-kind internship which was conducted in partnership with disabilityworks at the Chicagoland Chamber.
TechWorks Pilot Project Coordinator Catherine Marsden (right), an independent contractor, presented a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the program while recognizing the student interns for all their hard work this summer. On her left is Corrie Harris, an intern at Jewish Vocational Services.
Sandeep Nain (right) at SnTail Technology employed Jimmy Cao (left) as a summer intern. All participants in this pilot project (students, employers, nonprofit agencies, and parents) expressed that much workforce and business value was gained from the internship experience. It should be noted that a few interns were not present at this event for the very best reason--their internship was still ongoing through the end of the summer!
