McDonald's USA Receives Statewide disabilityworks Innovation Award

The disabilityworks Innovation Award is a statewide award presented by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to businesses that show leadership in the area of hiring people with disabilities. On October 22nd, 2009, McDonald's became the third recipient of this honor. Only one award is presented annually at the Statewide Workforce Development Conference in Springfield, Illinois.
McDonald's was one of the employers who participated in the disabilityworks, City of Chicago, Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, TechWorks Pilot Project where students with disabilities who have skills in IT and other related technology fields served in internships during Summer 2009.
McDonald's hired a student with a disability in their graphic design department for a summer internship. Resulting from the success of this internship, McDonald's has decided to create an annual internship for students with disabilities who demonstrate skills in IT or other technology related fields.
