disabilityworks and Easter Seals Join Forces to Implement new Statewide Veteran Initiative
Coinciding with Aon's Salute to Wounded Warriors on Friday, November 20th, Governor Pat Quinn announced a new statewide initiative that unites Easter Seals existing Operation Employ Veterans and Community One Source programs with disabilityworks' statewide outreach capabilities. The Operation Employ Veterans is a program which educates businesses on benefits of recruiting, hiring and retaining veterans with and without disabilities. The Community OneSource is a resource and referral program for veterans needing assistance reintegrating into civilian life, which includes employment in the civilian sector. disabilityworks will spearhead the marketing efforts of the two programs through it's statewide network of staff and the newly created position of Director of Marketing and Communications.
disabilityworks partnered with Aon, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to honor a group of hand-picked veterans with disabilities who are seeking employment in the private sector. After receiving job search training from Aon and Lee Hecht Harrison, participation in a Veteran Panel moderated by Assistant Secretary of Public and Governmental Affairs for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth, these veterans were awarded Certificates of Completion by Retired Joint Chiefs of Staff General Richard B. Myers and Aon CEO Greg Case and received congratulations from Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Forty eight Chicagoland employers, many of which are CBLN members, took turns at briefly interviewing the candidates for second round interview consideration.
disabilityworks thanks all CBLN members who participated in the event, and is looking forward to providing Operation Employ Veterans training to those who attended and the remaining members who were unable to join us on November 20th.
