US Assistant Secretary John Hager, Department of Education, Office of Special Education & Rehabilitative Services visits disabilityworks

On February 22, 2007, at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, leaders from the city, state and disability community met with Assistant Secretary John Hager from the US Department of Education, Office of Special Education & Rehabilitative Services. The purpose was to discuss the coordination of transition programs and interagency collaboration on behalf of students with disabilities as well as people who become adventitiously disabled. What Agencies Were Involved?
Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, State and City of Chicago leaders from the IL Dept. of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, IL Board of Higher Education, IL Community College Board, IL Council for Developmental Disabilities, IL Dept. of Human Services Division of Rehabilitation Services, IL State Board of Education, IL Dept. of Healthcare & Family Services, City of Chicago Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, Chicago Public School Office of Specialized Services and Access Living Center for Independent Living. A round table discussion took place to address transition initiatives impacting youth with disabilities as well as people who become disabled and must change careers. US Assistant Secretary John Hager is very interested in what is happening in transition programs across the United States and disabilityworks was honored to host Mr. Hager's first visit to Chicago.
